MAGDALENA WODARCZYK

For me, glass is a light-sensitive matrix onto which I can pour my visions. During the creative process, I seek balance in the collision of light and shadow – transparent glass matter and opaque matte structure.

The Focus exhibition is a retrospective of my work to date. A summary of the research and experiments, conducted at the glassworks of the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, Poland, and at the Martin Štefánek Glassworks in Desná, Czech Republic, on my original methods of shaping furnace glass.

Graduated from the Department of Ceramics and Glass at the E. Geppert Academy of Art and Design, Wrocław, 2015, and at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Opole, 2016. Since 2015, she has been employed at the Department of Ceramics and Glass at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław as a research and teaching employee. Currently, as part of her doctoral dissertation, she is conducting research projects in the field of hot glass forming methods.

Her thesis, completed at the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław, was in the finals of the competitions: Stanislav Libenský Award, Czech Republic, 2015, Design 32. Best Design Diplomas, 2015.

She has participated in 3 solo exhibitions in Wrocław and in about 50 group exhibitions and plein-air events in Poland, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy and Ukraine.

Organiser and coordinator of workshops and international projects and one of the curators of the XII and XIII High Temperatures Festival, 2019, 2021.

For the past 10 years she has been involved in photojournalism and has documented student projects and cultural events realised by the Academy of Art and Design in Wrocław. She collects furniture from the communist period and is compiling a catalogue of it.
